Planet Alpha Author Nicola Cameron Visits!

**Big Congrats to Brandi, who won my Halloween Blog Hop!  Follow me on Twitter or friend me on FB for info on my Christmas Give-a-way! **

Hello, Nicola!  Thank you so much for visiting Written Butterfly with me today!

Q) How did you dream up the dynamics of your characters?

For me, character dynamics develop as I write the story. I can come up with a general idea of how I want a specific character to behave, but then they change during the actual writing process and I’m left to scramble madly and play catch up. In Assassin, for example, I wanted Taric to be tough but tender, Zhan to be sly, dangerous, and sarcastic as all hell, and Duncan to be a regular Joe who gets thrown into this alien bonding relationship. So of course the characters shifted a bit; Zhan turned out to a hidden soft spot, Duncan became far tougher than I originally imagined him to be, and Taric is the (extremely patient) glue that holds their triad together.

Q) How much real life do you put into or influences your books?

Depends on the book -- in the case of Assassin I don’t know any aliens in real life (or do I?), but I have a background in police procedure thanks to my dad and was able to call on that for Duncan and the New Black Watch, plus I’ve been a science fiction writer since 1995 so that helped with the SF aspects of the book. I also have a tendency to give friends cameos in my books -- Watchmen Muenzler, Hutson, and Seaborn were all named after members of my writers’ group.

Q) What are your upcoming projects?

I’m currently finishing an MMF historical erotic romance set in 1923 Berlin called Behind the Iron Cross, and after that I start work on book three in my Olympic Cove series (book two, Breaker Zone, will be out from Evernight Publishing in late November).

BLURB

While hunting raiders, Duncan Shea and other members of the New Black Watch run into a deadly ambush. Injured and alone, Duncan stumbles across a grounded shuttle carrying an Alphan warrior named Taric and a mysterious Xyran named Zhan. The handsome aliens agree to help Duncan, but he quickly learns they also have a plan of their own -- to claim him as their mate.

Forced to hide their bond from their respective governments, Taric and Zhan never expect to find their third bondmate while on an unauthorized mission to stop a vicious Xyran slave master. Neither of them can resist the urge to claim Duncan, but will their new mate help them catch their old foe, or turn them over to Earth -- and Alphan -- justice?

EXCERPT

Duncan stepped back as the airlock hatch rose, revealing a huge golden Alphan warrior in a black uniform. A brief memory flickered across his mind, an afternoon with a tall, broadly built watchman who had tumbled him laughing into a bed of leaves before fucking him senseless. The sex had left him with a distinct appreciation for men built on the alien’s scale.

“Greetings, human,” the Alphan said, golden eyes staring at him curiously. “Are you in need of aid?”

The low, rumbling voice knocked him out of the memory. “Uh, yeah. I mean, yessir,” Duncan said, wondering if he should salute or what. “Name’s Duncan Shea. I’m with the New Black Watch.” He showed his right arm, where a band of green and blue tartan had been clumsily sewn. At the alien’s puzzled look he added, “It’s a guard unit. We were tracking some thieves when we got ambushed about five klicks from here.”

The alien glanced at the woods behind him. “You are alone?”

Duncan grimaced. “My men are dead. Bastards planted some kind of mine in the woods.” Like an alien’s gonna know what a mine is. “You step on it, it blows up,” he clarified. “You heard anything about that, sir?”

The Alphan’s eyebrows rose. “About … mines?”

“Or thieves, sir. Local ones.”

The alien shook his head. “I know nothing about local criminals, Watchman Shea. Nor do I know anything about human explosive devices.”

Duncan sagged. Even if the Alphan was lying, there was no way he could prove it. And forcing his way on board an alien ship, even if it wasn’t hiding outlaws on board, was suicide. “All right, thank you.” With a weary tip of his hat, he turned to go.

“Wait,” the alien ordered. “You were injured in this explosion.”

It was a statement, not a question. Duncan shrugged, then winced as his cold, tight muscles cramped with the motion. “Got banged up a little, yeah.”

This time the Alphan glanced up at the gunmetal sky and the cold rain pouring down. “This weather is not safe or healthy for an injured human. Board my ship and I shall assist you.”

It was Duncan’s turn to raise his eyebrows. “‘Scuse me?”

“Did I use your language incorrectly?” The Alphan switched to a loud, slow tone. “Board … my … ship … and—”

Duncan shook his head. “I got that. I meant, why are you gonna help me?”

The alien smiled. It made his craggy, handsome face more human, somehow. “My race signed a treaty with yours to offer assistance when and where we could. As such, it is my duty as an Alphan warrior to assist an injured human warrior.”

“Oh.” That did line up with what he’d heard about the gold aliens and their sense of honor. “Well, sir, in the case, I’d be pleased to get out of the rain for a spell.”

The Alphan stepped back, and Duncan climbed into the airlock, pulling off his hat and swallowing a moan as the warm air hit his cold, wet skin. “Oh, that feels good.”

“I imagine it does.” The Alphan towered over him by a good six inches, and a pair of pointed black horns on his forehead added another inch of height. Duncan couldn’t help checking out the thickly muscled body straining the seams of its uniform. While he was in good shape, he suspected that the Alphan could crush him like a bug.

Or throw you down and fuck you silly, part of his mind suggested.

He shivered pleasantly at the thought. “Um, do you—”

“What a sodden creature,” another voice said sourly. “Do we let it drip dry, or do we wring it out?”

BIO

Nicola Cameron is an expatriate Chicagoan who has lived in England, Canada, Holland, and Sweden, and keeps a confusing amalgamation of languages in her head as a result. Currently located in the clavicle of Texas, she has finally mastered the proper use of "y'all," much to her Chicago family's dismay.

Despite a healthy interest in sex since puberty, it wasn't until 2012 that Nicola decided to try writing about it. As it turned out, the skills she picked up during her SF writing career transferred rather nicely to erotic romance. When not writing, she wrangles cats, smooches her husband, makes dolls of dubious and questionable identity, and thanks almighty Cthulhu that she doesn’t have to work for a major telecommunications company any more (because there’s BDSM, and then there’s just plain torture...).

Welcome to Jacey Holbrand!

Hello, Jacey!  Thank you so much for visiting Written Butterfly with me today!

Thank you for having me. (:

Q) How did you dream up the dynamics of your characters?

Evernight Publishing has a great series called, Planet Alpha. I wrote The Gathering with that series in mind. When it came to the characters, the alien had to fit certain guidelines and my other two characters were human so I felt I had a little leeway. I like dystopian stories and scenarios. The characters just came to me. A man who had just gotten out of the military… A woman scientist and inventor… How would the two of them, who happened to be childhood friends, cope in a dying world? How would they handle themselves if they were abducted? That’s what came to my mind and what I ran with when I set out to write the story.

Q) Is this part of a series?  If so, tell us about it!

The Gathering didn’t make it into the Planet Alpha series, but I was offered a Revise and Resubmit. So, I reworked the story and made it the first in a new futuristic series called, The Glorious Guild of Lady Windsurfer. This series has Nicola, the scientist and inventor, as the leader of a group of her friends and family members. Nicola is the narrator, and through her, readers can follow the tales of the people and their relationships. The group works toward the common good of man and for their own survival as they create new gadgets and explore strange worlds they access via portals.

Q) What are your upcoming projects?

I have another Planet Alpha submission I’m waiting to hear word on. I’m working on the next story in my series called The Agency. I also have a couple more stories I’m working on for The Glorious Guild of Lady Windsurfer series.

Blurb

The year is 2112, and the world has changed…
Jake Landry is interested in having some fun. He’s in Las Vegas, newly single and just off his most recent tour of duty. In Vegas he has met up with his old friend Nicola Goodheart, a scientist and inventor who studies portals, other worlds, and strange beings. Jake has also met and become enamored with Alexander, a gorgeous man with violet eyes. Jake goes with Nic on a portal finding mission, and they all end up in Alexander’s alien world.
Recruiter Alexander Bloodworth is interested in Jake for himself and in Nicola for placement in a pleasure house on his home planet of Aurath. When he hears word one of his people’s enemies are after Nicola and Jake, he goes to save them both, even at the peril of losing his job.
Will they risk their hopes and dreams—Alexander and Jake for a chance at love and Nicola for her career—or will they falter and lose everything anyway?
Be Warned: m/m sex

Excerpt
“Frottage?”
Pleased the color started to return to Alexander’s skin, Jake smiled and rubbed Alexander’s arm, loving the way his brow knit together when he became perplexed. “It’s also known as dry humping or sex without penetration. We can rub and grind on each other to achieve an orgasm. It’ll get us over the hump.” He chuckled. “No pun intended. It’ll get us by until we’re where we have access to protection.”
“Sounds acceptable to me.” Alexander captured Jake’s mouth in another kiss and the only time he stopped kissing him was to pull Jake’s shirt over his head.
They mimicked each other’s touches—running their hands up each other’s smooth chests, tracing the dips and curves of their muscles, enticing nipples. When Alexander latched onto one of Jake’s hard nubs, Jake sucked in a stream of air. Alexander’s lips on his body were like heaven and hell. Heaven because their silky touch sent delightful vibes through him, and hell because whenever Alexander trailed down toward his pulsing cock, he didn’t take it in his mouth or lick or kiss it.
“Come on, Alexander. Quit teasing me.”
“What do you want me to do? I want to hear it. Tell me.”
Alexander’s rumbling commands sent more heat racing through Jake’s veins and down into his cock. Jake didn’t know his dick could get harder than it already was, but it had. He gazed straight into the alien’s stormy purple eyes. “I want you, Alexander. I want you to take me in that beautiful mouth of yours. I want you to suck me dry.”
The alien rose from the couch and towered over Jake before he dropped to his knees in front of him. Alexander reached out and grabbed the top of Jake’s pants, then yanked them down and off his body. Jake’s cock stood, bobbing to and fro as he resettled on the couch.
“Spread your legs, Jake.”

Q & A with Lea Bronsen!

Hello Lea!  Thank you so much for visiting Written Butterfly with me today!

Hi Beth, thank you for hosting me on your beautiful blog! I’m really happy to talk about The Perfect Shoot, book one in my new erotic interracial romance series Hot Model Mine from Evernight. I hope you enjoy this tale of ‘impossible’ love, dead-honest and written with my heart.

Q) How did you dream up the dynamics of your characters?

The premise was easy—“erotic romance author meets cover model of her book”. But their story couldn’t be easy. I needed drama, hopelessness, emotions all over the place… So I made the heroine a thriving writer and hard-working mother nearing her forties, tough and independent but with low self-esteem. The hero had to be her opposite—young, self-confident, sex-on-legs. Andrea lost faith in love many years ago, while Yushka was becoming sick of his numerous fleeting relationships. Then, as I wanted the book to start with a bang! I made Andrea have a secret crush on Yushka prior to meeting him AND when she arrived at the conference, he was in the midst of “betraying” her with another woman! No need to say their dynamics were bound to become explosive, lol.

Q) Do you have any habits that get you in the writing frame of mind?

No, I don’t have any habits at all. I’ll write anywhere, anytime. My days are full. In parallel with everything else I have trotting in my head, I’m constantly playing a scene or another and write it down whenever I have a minute. But I do need to be in a certain frame of mind in order to sink deeply in a character’s POV and convey his/her feelings, emotions, and thoughts appropriately.

Q) What are your upcoming projects?

The sequel! I’m currently writing book 2, Mine to Love, and hope to have it ready for submission by the end of the year. I also have the erotica High-Risk Fever coming out soon, an even steamier story than the Hot Model Mine series. Then I’m working on a psychological thriller, a monster of a project that will take me years to finish. I love writing that genre just as much as erotic romance! Lastly, I’m collaborating on a suspense romance novel with my talented author sista DC Stone. :-)

Blurb:
When Andrea Johnson, writing as author Cindy Vega, signed up for a Meet & Greet with the cover model of her latest book, she didn’t expect sparks to fly. Yushka is dangerously good-looking and too young for her. But their connection is instantaneous, and during a photo shoot with the two, the photographer picks up on their growing attraction. Seeing the potential for the cover photo of the century, he decides to push their comfort limits...

Excerpt:
An assistant calls Yushka’s name. Bare-chested, the Asian hunk appears from a group of models, strolls to the spotlights, and waits in front of the camera with the confident stance of a professional.
The whole place quiets as if in awe. He’s unbelievably beautiful with his tanned, bulging muscles and washboard-abs-to-die-for. When photographer Lemaître asks him to undo his hair, a black waterfall lands on his shoulders and down his back. A few muffled feminine squeals fill the silence.
One by one, authors whose books he appears on get a few pictures taken with him in flattering positions, wrapping their arms around his back or swallowed up in his embrace, beaming like schoolgirls at their first prom.
Jealousy rips through me so violently I can barely breathe, but my time is up soon, and I hate that even more. I’m non-photogenic, and seeing pictures of myself makes me sick. I’ve chosen a sexy, black top and matching short skirt for the occasion, but looking my best doesn’t help. My stomach ties in a knot.
“Cindy Vega,” an assistant calls.
Fuck, that’s me. I’m dead.
“Go,” Laurie says, giving me a small push.
All muscles tense, I leave my safe corner and join Yushka. He greets me with a placid face, but from the warmth in his pupils, I get a feeling he’s glad to see me. Side by side, narrowing our eyes from the piercing light, we face Lemaître and wait for orders.
Damn. Being so near Yushka’s naked torso is unbearable, as is the heat from the lamps shining on us. Sweat beads roll down the sides of my chest, between my breasts. He endures, too. A thin film of sweat coats his golden skin, making it glow, but he doesn’t seem bothered.
Lemaître clears his throat. “Bon. Stand a little closer. Cindy, this is for Eden Luna Publishing’s website. Officially, we want authors happily meeting their cover models, but off the record, we want sensual, we want heat. Readers will get off seeing your pictures like they do reading your books.”
Stiff as a rod, I nod agreement. I’d half expected this. Problem is, I hate being in the spotlight with so many people watching, and I hate the notion of having my photo all over the internet.
“Sooo,” he continues, “I will ask you to just stand like this, facing me, and smile. That is all. Yushka knows what he has to do.”
“Okay.”
Turning to my side, Yushka puts a hot hand on my stomach and the other on the small of my back. Though light, his touches destabilize me, as does the warm, musky scent sneaking to my nostrils.
“Closer,” Lemaître orders. “Bodily contact.”
Shit, I’m fucked.
The stud radiates heat as he approaches, sweaty chest sticking to my arm, heart beating against my skin. His crotch barely brushes my hip, but each pore in my body becomes acutely aware of him, on high alert. As last night’s intense arousal replays in all of me, my inner thighs clench with renewed want.
Whispers and low chuckles sound from both sides of the vast lobby. I try to forget the hundred eyes following my every move, but can’t help being distracted, bathed in full light and painfully self-conscious.
“That is better.” Like a shooting gun, Lemaître’s camera clicks and the flash blinds me repetitively. “Now, give him a smile, Cindy. You know the kind I want.”
My throat so dry I can’t speak, I turn to Yushka.
He’s very near, inches from my face, black pupils gleaming with mischief. Sweat pearls on his face, making him look sexier than ever. Long, black hairs glue to his forehead and cheeks. He smells of soap, his close shave making him look baby-faced.
Seemingly at ease, the heaving of his chest regular, he stares into my eyes. I can’t believe his confidence. Modelling is his profession, but how does he stay so fucking calm?
“You wanna give me a smile?” he whispers, warm breaths brushing my chin. Behind me, his large hand sneaks lower and palms my butt cheek. With that and his other fingers splaying on my stomach, he pulls me to him, making me feel the entire length and…hardness…of his cock on my hip.
I suck in a breath.
His lips curl up in a self-satisfied grin. “Hm, Andrea? You wanna give me a smile?”
Oh my fucking God. I can’t help but obey while my insides go up in flames.
Flashing his teeth, he kneads my ass with a strong hand and pushes his full erection against me. He knows what he’s doing, the devil. He knows slowly rubbing me with his cock turns my pussy to burning liquid.
Somewhere, a feminine gasp breaks the silence, followed by contained laughter.
Très bien, we have a smile,” Lemaître says, camera clicking, flash shooting. “Thank you, Cindy, that will be enough. Next!”
Still grinning and holding my look, Yushka slowly backs off, leaving chillier air between us.
I’m frozen. In shock, lust, need.
“Come on, move it!” Lemaître calls. “We don’t have all day.”
No shit.

Piper Kay visits with her new Release!

Hello Piper!  Thank you so much for visiting Written Butterfly with me today!

Q) How did you dream up the dynamics of your characters?

Oh gawd, that is a very tough question. The best way to explain it is using actual characters from the story and to say that I gave them all issues. I know, cruel author lady, but I did give them solutions, they just had to hunt for them.

Take Mickey, the main character in Invicta Sanctuary. He enters the story with several issues, but one cause for them all. He needs to restore his self-confidence. He had bookoos of it at one time, so he’s familiar with it and can recognize it in someone else, but not within himself. He lost it, and doesn’t know how to get it back. He realizes this fact, but instead of trying to fix it, he chooses to throw up walls to protect himself, or so he thinks. Mickey has several mental projections of himself that range from the “should have been me” image, to the “was me” version, all the way to the “I’m expected to be” scenario, where even his own expectations are impossible to meet. (that one alone tosses him into fear and failure mode by default)

Now bring Kaiden into the story, he can look at Mickey and recognize the fear side of it. Kade knows how to beat fear because he’s done it. (or thinks he has) But let Toryn come in the story, and he zooms in on Mickey’s trust issues. Enter Holton, who has the need to rescue and save everyone, join in. All he sees is a desire, a strong need to fit in and be accepted. Holt has daddy issues from his own past. Three separate solutions to three different issues. One cause.

They dynamics part of the characters is that they all hold bits and pieces of the solution, and the only way to completely resolve it is to have all the puzzle pieces. That is what makes them dependent on one another. Invicta means unbeatable, undefeatable and when they can help each other like this, that’s what they become…unbreakable. That is what Invicta is all about. Did that make any sense what so ever? hahaha

Q) Do you have any habits that get you in the writing frame of mind?

I guess only a couple. I need music, and it has to be blasting. That automatically tosses me in the zone for the most part. Not sure if that is a routine, a preference or a habit, it’s just something that has to take place before I can type one word. Next would be a pot of coffee, pretty sure that’s just a bad habit, even though it’s still a necessity. I think the last one, is more an OCD issue, but I have to have a clean desk to start. Once I get in the zone, I don’t want anything distracting me, so I clean off the desk to make sure of that.

Q) What are your upcoming projects?

October 17th-CRAVE anthology by Hot Ink Press
December 2014-Passions Pride. (Final book of the Passion Series)After the New Year, in Spring 2015-Invicta book 3
Summer 2015 (hopefully) Start of a new series. Still researching title names.

Blurb:
What is your sanctuary? For Mickey, he never needed one, he was his own. Until now. In a situation spinning out of control, Mickey is forced to make a move and he's not sure how to handle it. He's an intelligent, self-reliant man who never depended on anyone for anything, but now he is alone for the first time in his life, scared. By accident, he ends up at Invicta, the hottest new male go-go dance club in town. Owners, Kade and Holt, know the behavior all too well, but Mickey's trust factor is leveling out on zero, until he spots Toryn. Sometimes sanctuary can be found in the strangest of places.

Excerpts-
1. That young, dark haired, and tatted up hottie grabs me right off the bat. He can’t be more than twenty-four tops. Just right. He’s been poured into those leathers, his ass packed in nice and tight. Firm. They might as well have wrapped the man in saran wrap, not that I’d complain either way. He’s finally announced, but it’s probably a stage name he uses. Who even cares? As long as he keeps shaking himself around, I’m all good. The man rocks to the beat of the music. He pops that majestic ass in perfect tune with the thumps blasting from the speakers. Done like a true power bottom and personally, I’m enjoying the hell out of it. His hips begin to roll in a perfect circle, as he pivots on one foot to his side. He coils himself all the way around twice before facing the front. I’m loving his body movements. Someone stick a fork in me, because I’m sizzling… I think I may have just fallen in love with the man on the stage and those ‘fuck me hard’ hip moves.

2. Somehow, with just one kiss, he plowed right through the thoughts that had me worried sick all evening, and redirected them to one focal point. Him!  Slowly, I reach for Toryn's waist with one hand to see if he'll let me closer or slap me down. God, I feel like I'm in high school on my first damn date again-CHILL Mickey, just calm down. He looks down at my hand, then back to me. Without breaking our eye contact, I feel his hand wrap around mine and tighten. Oh thank fuck!  I yank him into me, lowering my head so our mouths meet. Our kisses, so sloppy, and hungry for each other. I press against him, unable to get enough. Running my hand along his waist to his back, I tightening my grip, and spin him around, slamming him against the wall. He lets out a moan. Before I can stop myself, I bury myself inside his mouth, swallowing every bit of that delicious moan. Fuckenhell.

3. I yank him into me, lowering my head so our mouths meet. Our tongues are so much more aggressive, now that all the unspoken terms and agreements have been cleared. Well, at least they have on my behalf. We dart and chase around each other, so sloppy and hungry for each other. No matter how hard I press against him, I can't get enough of him or fast enough for that matter. Oh my God, the man's mouth feels incredible.

The My Boyfriend Is... Series!

The Evernight Birthday Blog Hop celebration still has one more day but I thought I'd invite Elizabeth Monvey over to talk about her M/M paranormal series "My Boyfriend Is..."  Her latest book is My Alien Boyfriend, available HERE!

Thank you so much for letting me visit and talk about my series!  So far there are three books, but Evernight just accepted book 4, My Ghostly Boyfriend, and I'm working on Book 5.

Q) Oh, sounds interesting!  Can you tell us a little about My Alien Boyfriend?

This is a very emotional story, in which Mace is an alien, perfectly content to live on Earth and study us humans...as long as he doesn't use his "gifts".  Once he does, he must return home so he doesn't run the risk of being discovered.  But in order to do that, he must save Parker's life, who is his one true love.

Q)Can you give some hint about Book 5?

This one is going to be titled My Pregnant Boyfriend and is going to be slightly longer than the Romance on the Go, which is the category the other books are in.  My two heroes, Ethan and Peter, are shifters, only Peter is an animal long thought extinct.  Since he's the last one of his kind alive, he ends up in the family way.

To write this type of story, I had to find a way that made sense, not using "aliens" (since I'd already used that).  I think I came up with a clever twist on the shifter mythology.

Q) Do you have any more My Boyfriend Is... lined up after book 5?

I have a whole slew of ideas.  With this type of idea I really can't run out.  But it all depends when I'll get to them.  I'd love to write My Zombie Boyfriend.  I like Zombies.

Q) Can you give any type of background info on My Ghostly Boyfriend?

I got the idea from a movie I watched titled The Invisible, staring the adorable Alex O'Loughlin (only he played a bad guy in this).  A young, rich kid is attacked and left for dead and his spirit floats around wondering what the heck happened.  The only person who can see him is the girl who helped attack him.  It's a really good thriller that keeps your heart racing.  I used that idea to inspire what happens to Tom.

Thanks so much, Elizabeth, for visiting with me!  If you've missed any of the "My Boyfriend Is..." series, check out the blurbs below!

My Alien Boyfriend (My Boyfriend Is... book 3):
